Smooth Bore Cutterheads

Stiles cutterheads are made from high quality steel and precision engineering to offer you a superior product.

The balance quality of the Stiles tooling range of cutterheads is of a much higher standard than that specified in the appropriate tooling standards.

Standard specification ISO 1940-1: Quality level = G16 or 152gmm.

Stiles quality level = G2.5 or 28gmm which means 5.4 times the better quality of balance

All cutterheads are ground to ensure the concentricity of the bore to the outside diameter and the squareness of the bore to each end face. This ensures there is no bending of the machine
spindle on mounting of the cutterhead and hence no vibration problems due to cutterheads running out of true.

Each cutterhead has an end of life line turned into its side. This indicates when the knives have reached the end of their intended life and require replacement.

1. Ensure all components are clean.
2. Check the serration angle in the cutterhead matches the serration angle of the knives.
3. Insert wedge and cutter into the knife slot.
4. Make sure all knives seat correctly when in position.
5. Using a torque wrench, tighten all screws to 25-30-ft-lbs torque, in the correct sequence, from the center to the outside of the cutterhead.
6. Balanced pairs of dummy knives must be used in opposite unused slots.

8300 rpm (for cutterheads below 150mm diameter)
7200 rpm (for cutterheads above 150mm diameter)

Standard cutterheads are offered in:

• angles of 12, 20, and dual angle (12/20)
• 40mm, 1-13/16", and 1/2" bore
• cutting lengths of 60, 80, 100, 130, 150, 180, 230, 240 and 310mm
• two knife or four knife
